Slow metabolism? 3 ways to rev it up!

Lot’s of people complain about how slow their metabolisms have gotten as they have aged through the years.   There are many different things a person can do to speed up their metabolisms, but for right now let me give you 3 of the most effective ways that you can start right now to rev it up.

#1- Since nutrition and how we eat is one of the most important things you can do to change your body, let me have the first step be about food.  Yes,  you can speed up your metabolism by eating certain foods.  If you eat foods that are less processed and lower in sugar such as oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat tortillas, chicken, super lean beef, eggs, fish and plenty of fruits and veggies then your body will have to work that much harder to process that food.  This will cause the body to burn more calories during that food processing and will certainly rev up your metabolism.

#2- Think of your metabolism like a camp fire. What would happen to a little camp fire if you put a big log on top of it?  It would put the fire out, right? This similar thing can apply to your metabolism.  If you haven’t eaten all morning and then have a big lunch it would be like putting a big log on top of a little camp fire.  Now, what happens when you feed a fire smaller pieces of wood more frequently? It would make the fire burn hotter and longer, right?  What if you stop feeding the fire altogether? Well, the fire goes out.  The same principles apply to your metabolism.  So make sure you feed yourself about every 2-4 hours during the times that you are awake to keep your metabolism active and burning hot.

#3- Muscle burns fat, the more muscle a person has the faster their metabolism will be.  This is one of the reasons that the fitness competitors can stay pretty lean even when they are not competing.  1 pound of muscle in the body can burn about 40-80 calories each day without you even doing anything.  So how do you get more muscle on your body?  Well one of the best things to build more muscle would be to do some resistance or weight training exercises 2-4 time per week.  And don’t worry about gaining to much muscle as I’ve heard some people say, you wont trust me.

With some good eating habits, plenty of rest and weight training, your body will indeed be able to rev up your metabolism no matter how slow it is now and not matter what age you may be at the present time.
